Meet Frank Malaro - Guitarist

An Interview with Frank Malaro - Guitarist

Hi Frank, how many years have you been playing guitar?
I've been playing for 48 years.

What was the first band you played out with?
My first band job was a confirmation party for my cousin Michael held in Jersey City on Sip Avenue.

What musicians influenced you?
Musician influences were obvious.  There was the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and later on in years there was Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Johnny Winter and Roy Buchanan.

How many bands have you been in?
There are too many to count.  Some of my favorites were Stop, Rocco and the Stingrays and the Saloonatics.

What's it like to gig?
Gigging sometimes can be very hectic and tedious.  Once everything is set up, you're ready to go and need to give your body and brain a chance to calm down.  The rest of it is just great fun with old friends.

How often do you practice?
In terms of practicing, I play every day for at least a half hour, nothing serious, just scales and chords.

What is one of your accomplishments as a musician?
I would say it's playing the guitar doing benefits.  I'm playing shows with friends and making people happy.  It's great to see people enjoying something that you enjoy doing like playing music.
